Rotation options

90° CW

Rotate clockwise — landscape becomes portrait. The most common fix for scanned pages, as covered in <a href="https://www.howtogeek.com/how-to-rotate-and-save-a-pdf-file-permanently/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">HowToGeek's rotation guide</a>.

90° CCW

Rotate counter-clockwise — for scans saved rotated left. The same rotation options offered by <a href="https://www.ilovepdf.com/rotate_pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ilovepdf</a>, but without uploading your file.

180°

Flip upside-down pages to read them correctly. Useful for double-sided scans exported in the wrong direction.

Per page

Rotate individual pages independently within a document — a feature highlighted in <a href="https://www.techspot.com/guides/2411-best-pdf-editors/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TechSpot's PDF editor roundup</a>.

Frequently asked questions

How do I rotate a PDF page?

Open your PDF in the editor, go to the page panel, right-click a page thumbnail, and choose Rotate 90° clockwise or counter-clockwise. The rotation is applied to the exported PDF.

Can I rotate just one page in a PDF?

Yes. Each page can be rotated independently. Rotating one page does not affect any other page in the document.

Can I rotate a PDF 180 degrees?

Yes. Apply two 90° rotations in the same direction to achieve a 180° rotation, or use the 180° option directly from the page menu.

Can I rotate multiple pages at once?

Yes. Select multiple page thumbnails in the page panel by holding Shift or Cmd/Ctrl, then apply rotation to all selected pages simultaneously.

Why is my PDF showing sideways?

Scanned documents are often saved with the wrong page orientation. The /Rotate entry in the PDF's page dictionary sets the display angle — if a scanner saves in portrait mode but the page was fed landscape, the result appears sideways. As HowToGeek explains, rotating and saving is required because PDF viewers only apply the rotation display temporarily.

Is the rotation saved permanently?

Yes. Once you download the rotated PDF, the orientation is permanently stored in the file's page dictionary. It will display correctly in Adobe Reader, Chrome, Firefox, and all major PDF viewers.

How does this compare to ilovepdf or Adobe for rotating?

ilovepdf.com and Adobe Acrobat online both rotate PDFs but upload your file to their servers. PDFTheGuide rotates entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
